• [Update] Karbonn’s Jelly Bean tablet’s on its way to hit Indian retails this month

Karbonn Mobiles’ executive director confirmed that the company’s first tablet Smart Tab 1 will start selling off in retails this month. ST1 could be India’s first Android 4.1 Jelly Bean tablet. The tablet will be available in much affordable price range… so you shouldn’t expect heavenly high-end hardware inside it. It packs single core silicon inside clocking at 1.2Ghz and features 7 inch capacity touchscreen display, 2MP camera, USB port supporting data dongles, Wi-Fi n, 1080p playback, etc. Although company’s product webpage tells you…

“Smart Tab 1 users will be able to enjoy September onwards, a free upgrade to the latest Jelly Bean OS”

… the managing director tells us that ST1 will come loaded with Jelly Bean. In fact, it’s touted as world’s first Jelly Bean tab.

“Herein through our technological collaboration with MIPS Technologies and product alliance with Ingenic Semiconductor, we are proud to present the world’s first Smart Tab 1 (Tablet PC) loaded with Android ‘Jelly Bean’ technology.”

Pradeep Jain, managing director of Karbonn Mobiles said.

ST1 is said to be available for pre-booking on company’s website. It will cost you Rs. 6,990.

Update 4/08/2012: Since couple of days, ST1 is available in electronic stores like some branches of Croma Retails, but it’s available as a “demo” over there. We were told that Karbonn didn’t yet start selling ST1. The demo available had Android 4.0 ICS running. So, this adds up more confusion like: will it really be shipping with ICS and will get a Jelly Bean update later in September, or should we go with the touting words of company’s MD “loaded with Android Jelly Bean“?! We’re on for official confirmations.
