Telecom Stats (March ’12) – 4.76m new subscribers through MNP; 683.02m active mobiles

TRAI released telecom subscription stats of March 2012. Key highlights of the data are as followed:
- There have been 683.02 million active mobile subscribers on peak VLR in March - a 12.37 million rise from 670.65 million active mobile subscribers on peak VLR in February ’12. (Visitor Location Register is a temporary subscriber database. Total mobile subscriber base has reached to 919.17 million.)
- Total broadband subscriptions went up to 13.79 million in March, from 13.54 million in February ’12.
- There had been 4.76 million new subscribers through Mobile Number Portability (MNP) in February ’12 - total MNP subscribers went up to 41.88 million. Largest number of MNP requests have been made in Karnataka till now – 45,29,287 requests from the time MNP service was available till the end of March.
Subscriber Base (GSM+CDMA/Top 7):
- Bharti Airtel had 2.5 million new subscribers in March, total number of its subscriber base reached to 181.28 million.
- Idea Cellular had 2 million new subscribers in March, total number of its subscriber base reached to 112.7 million.
- Uninor had 1.3 million new subscribers in March, total number of its subscriber base reached to 42.43 million.
- Reliance had 1.04 million new subscribers in March, total number of its subscriber base reached to 153.05 million.
- Vodafone had 1.03 million new subscribers in March, total number of its subscriber base reached to 150.5 million.
- BSNL had 0.8 million new subscribers in March, total number of its subscriber base reached to 98.51 million.
- Sistema had 0.4 million new subscribers in March, total number of its subscriber base reached to 15.7 million.
