Telecom Stats (February ’12) – 4.32m new subscribers through MNP; 670.65m active mobiles

TRAI released telecom subscription stats of February 2012. Key highlights of the data are as followed:
- There have been 670.65 million active mobile subscribers on peak VLR in February – a 10.68 million rise from 659.97 million active mobile subscribers on peak VLR in January ’12. (Visitor Location Register is a temporary subscriber database. Total mobile subscriber base has reached to 911.17 million.)
- Total broadband subscriptions went up to 13.54 million in February, from 13.42 million in January ’12.
- There had been 4.32 million new subscribers through Mobile Number Portability (MNP) in January ’12 - total MNP subscribers went up to 37.11 million. Largest number of MNP requests have been made in Karnataka till now – 39,40,238 requests from the time MNP service was available till the end of February.
Subscriber Base (GSM+CDMA/Top 7):
- Idea Cellular had 2.58 million new subscribers in February, total number of its subscriber base reached to 110.7 million.
- Uninor had 2.34 million new subscribers in February, total number of its subscriber base reached to 41.14 million.
- Bharti Airtel had 1.8 million new subscribers in February, total number of its subscriber base reached to 178.8 million.
- Reliance had 1 million new subscribers in February, total number of its subscriber base reached to 152 million.
- Vodafone had 0.83 million new subscribers in February, total number of its subscriber base reached to 149.4 million.
- Aircel had 0.8 million new subscribers in February, total number of its subscriber base reached to 63.3 million.
- Videocon had 0.4 million new subscribers in February, total number of its subscriber base reached to 6.2 million.
