  • BSNL announced ‘Penta T-Pad’ series tablets, ranging from Rs. 3250 – prebooking started

These Gingerbread tablets will soon be seen on sales by BSNL. Pantel, the company behind these tabs has done a better job than the $35 overpraised tablet maker Datawind – given the specs of the lowest costing tablet among the series, Penta T-Pad IS701R is obviously better than the Aakash tablet. IS701R features 1Ghz SoC, Wi-Fi, 256MB RAM, 2GB internal storage, 7 inch resistive touchscreen display, a USB post, SD card slot, an HDMI port and Android 2.3 Gingerbread. It’s priced at Rs. 3,250.

Penta T-Pad WS704C comes in the cheap segment rather than the cheapest. It’s specs – 1Ghz processor, Wi-Fi, WCDMA+GSM, 512MB RAM, 4GB internal storage, 2MP rear cam, 0.3MP front cam, Bluetooth 2.1, SD card slot, USB port, HDMI port, A-GPS, 7 inch capacitive touchscreen display. It will be backed by Android 2.3 Gingerbread. WS704C costs Rs. 10,999. And surprisingly, the official webpage tells you Android 2.3/4.0 OS version under the spec-sheet. We’re not sure whether this tablet be be upgradable to Android 4.0 ICS or not, but anyway we’ve contacted the company for clarification. We’ll update the article when they reply us. But given the specs (1Ghz+512MB RAM+7 inch screen), this tablet might not give a smoother experience on ICS.

Penta T-Pad WS802C is the third and a bit costlier than WS704C. This one features a Cortex A8 silicon clocking at 1.2Ghz, 512MB RAM, 4GB internal memory, 8 inch capacitive touchscreen display, Wi-Fi, WCDMA+GSM, USB port, HDMI port, an SD card slot, A-GPS, and Gingerbread. It will cost you Rs. 13,500.

Pre-booking of these tablets has already started (links added as source after the break). BSNL will start selling all three from March 1. WS704C and WS802C will be offered with two data packs – 5GB 3G connectivity at Rs. 750 and 7.5GB 2G connectivity at Rs. 250. It is reported that Pantel is trying to tie up with MTNL to sell the tabs in Mumbai and Delhi.

All three tablets sports good looks and advanced features. The most interesting part is that the tablets run the most demanding Android Gingerbread version, making them a stand on latest tablet platform.
