Acer launches Iconia series of tablets – first Honeycomb tablets in India
Okay we have been a bit late on this one – sorry about that. Anyways, Acer has launched their Iconia series tablets in India. One of which – Iconia A500 to be specific – also now holds the honor of being the first major tablet to launch in India with the sweet Honeycomb.
Boy is powered by the now-standard Tegra2 dual-core processor @ 1Ghz, and comes with a 10.1 inch TFT LCD running at 1280 x 800 – yep no IPS and we can’t find a reason for that. Just like all the other Honeycomb tablets it lacks any buttons, there’s just power and orientation lock and of course volume rocker at top. The thing also comes with an SD Card slot, 3.5mm headphone jack, mini-HDMI port, a mini-USB and…wait for it.. a full-sized USB port. Pretty rare for that one eh? There are also two cams over here – a 2 megapixel in front and 5 at back.
With the Iconia A500, Acer has also launched “Iconia Dual screen notebook” – pretty creative for a name, but as the same suggests – it has two screens and it isn’t exactly a tablet. It’s running Windows 7 on Core i5 or Core i7 processors – you can choose which one you want, instead of the usual keyboard in laptops, this thing packs two touchscreen – you can still have a virtual one (which is still pretty good) customized by Acer though. 4 gigs of RAM, 640 GB HDD and USB 3.0, HDMI and Ethernet ports with WiFi are all here. Both of those screens are 14.1 inch each, and run on 1366 x 768. Oh and a front 1.3 megapixel camera aswell.
The last and final tablet that Acer has launched is the W500 – more or less the same as A500 just running Windows 7 on an awesome AMD Fusion APU with 2 GB of RAM and 32 gigs of storage – we are a bit worried about that storage, since Windows 7 isn’t exactly a mobile OS and 32 GB is worth nothing. The best thing about this one is the detachable keyboard, that make’s it just like a laptop with a touchscreen when it’s there.
That’s that, the prices are last thing to know about that may (or may not) shatter your dreams – A500 is Rs. 27,900, W500 is Rs. 32,499 and the “Dual screen notebook” is worth Rs. 69,999.
