CoD: Black Ops new Multiplayer details revealed

Treyach is not only ditching the WWII setting and moving onto the “Cold War” era but also introducing new game modes and mechanics for the new installment although still keeping the Call of Duty ‘feel’ that people have come to expect and love.
The big news is that Instead of unlocking weapons on solely a rank basis, players now have to gain ranks to unlock items for purchase, and then buy weapons, attachments, Perks, Equipment and other customization options using your hard earned “CoD Points” which are basically a currency, which you can earn playing in Wager Matches or by finishing contracts (these two are the only methods revealed for now on earning CoD points).
Wager Matches have four different match types. Final game may have more that are different from your average CoD game modes. How different you ask? Well, that particular knowledge is held within a fortified bunker inside the Actvision studios, deep inside a underground vault spanning miles with agents from FBI, CIA, standing guar…
Alright, Fine! Just click play on the video then. I’m just trying to spice things up…
If your too bored to watch the video or just like reading (I hope not..), here are the details on the Wager modes.
One in the Chamber – This gametype begins with every player having one single bullet and three lives (1 shot, 1 kill). For each kill you receive a new bullet, for each miss you have to resort to using your trusty Knife (think Rambo!)
Sticks and Stones – You begin with a crossbow (the exploding ones), a ballistic knife and a tomahawk. If you hit a player with the tomahawk, that player is instantly bankrupted.
Gun Game – You begin the game with a pistol, but for each kill you are awarded a more powerful weapon. If you are knifed, you drop down one level. The winner is the first to progress through each of the 20 levels of weapons.
Sharp Shooter – Each player begins with a randomly selected weapon for a set period of time (same weapon for everyone.) After that time expires, every weapon changes to another random selection.

'Frank Woods', one of the Main Characters in Black Ops. I have a feeling he won't survive through the whole campaign.
Now about ‘Contracts’ these are similar to the ‘Challenges’ CoD games have but with a cool twist. First you must purchase them using CoD Points. Different contracts will have different goals, such as achieving a certain number of kills in a set amount of time with the specified weapon. Completing a contract will yield more CoD Points than the player paid for the contract itself but if you fail.. The points you used to buy the Contract is gone forever. The higher the difficulty of the contract (which become more expensive,) the more CoD Points you earn by completing it, so… will you risk it?
Also ‘Create-A-Class’ returns with Black Ops under the name “Create-A-Class 2.0″, what’s with all the 2.0′s these days?! Along with the old stuff you had when creating a class, now you can even customize the appearance of the character with Face Paint and other items (maybe the mask of ‘ghost’.) Treyarch has also added “cosmetic changes” such as clan tags on weapons and decals. It has also been revealed that the player can create their callsign from scratch.
And finally for more creative players, Black Ops has come up with Theatre mode where players can playback and edit any replay of their games to share with others online, and even upload to YouTube.
Like it or not, Treyarch is putting out some interesting additions and changes to Black Ops, even including “Dedicated Servers” and modding tools to the PC version again. I personally think these new additions will freshen up Black Ops and will stand out from the old CoD formula let us know your opinion in the comments below!

Coming to stores near you on 9th November 2010. (hopefully not through the window)
