Skyfire, For Android First
Development of Skyfire mobile browser for BlackBerry OS is in halt as developers feel Android is a simpler development platform than BlackBerry OS.
Jeff Glueck, CEO of Skyfire stated, “We see Android as a fast-rising ecosystem, with a rich, totally open developer environment, a healthy app market and a healthy advertising and search ecosystem. The Android OS has a tremendous amount of interest from handset makers and carriers, and also has a strong need for making the explosion of video more network optimized (Skyfire’s wheelhouse).”
Glueck stated that development for BlackBerry OS is difficult and does not meet the needed requirement. Also RIM will introduce the new BlackBerry 6.0 OS, which will have a better development environment than previous BlackBerry OS, at the end of the year. Skyfire seeks to make the browser for the upcoming 6.0 OS.
Skyfire mobile browser was first introduced to Symbian Series 60 platform and Windows Mobile. Inclusive of rich graphical web plugins like Silverlight, Adobe Flash and Quicktime makes the browser unique.
